Fife Autocentre has been serving customers throughout the Kingdom since 1993, from its first branch in Glenrothes the company has now expanded to six branches in Glenrothes, Leven, Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Stirling and Hillfoots Tillicoultry.
And that drive is set to continue into 2015, with a new branch opening soon in Dundee.
Such success, naturally, is attributed to staff and their continued commitment to customer satisfaction, with one of the main factors in achieving this being a high standard of workmanship.
What the public may not realise, however, is the process by which such skills are achieved - at Fife Autocentre we invest in Fife’s young people.
“Over 35 per cent of our workforce have started their careers as trainees following a structured training programme to become ualified mechanics, mot testers, assistant managers and managers,” explained Richard Forrester
“Firstly with a government-backed group, such as local training provider idtc ltd, they join Fife Autocentre learning the basics of working life in a garage environment.”
“The successful candidates will then move on to full time employment with Fife Autocentre, receiving in house training and also starting their four year modern apprenticeship at Fife College.”
For over ten years the company has worked closely with idtc, a local training provider in Fife which works in partnership with Skills Development Scotland to provide work experience for individuals aged 16-24 years old. And, over the years, more than 20 fully timeserved mechanics at Fife Autocentre have completed their City and Guilds levels 1, 2 and 3 through Fife College.
Richard added: “After achieving their qualifications some mechanics have moved on to sitting the exam to become a mot tester, working within guidelines laid down by V.O.S.A. - D.V.S.A. “This takes a lot of time and effort to gain the knowledge and the understanding of the extensive rules and regulations to be a successful candidate for this demanding position.”
Others have progressed into the direct customer care sector, involving a different skills set (telephone skills, customer skills, computer and man management skills) again learned in-house with Fife Autocentre, Bosch and Continental to name but a few.
This has been a successful formula which, over the years, has proven to work time and time again for both staff and the company.
“We are proud to boast the fact that we have a large proportion of our staff that have been with us from the start, gaining experience and life skills along the way. “We look forward to continuing our success through training and good working relationships with idtc, Fife College and Skills Development Scotland.”
Quote from our managing director Brian Meechan, the managers and staff are our most valuable asset and they are the key to the success of the fife autocentre group.
